bikkuri bahn
Can't vouch for accuracy in this article, but I'll say this, what goes for eccentricity or unusual pastimes in the west always seems to be branded as "fetishes" by selfsame (self-congratulatory?) westerners in the Japanese context. I give this guy some slack as he seems to be an otaku himself: http://kotaku.com/5798015/what-is-japans-fetish-this-week-trains Link to comment
The_Ghan
In my opinion its a pretty balanced view, although I thought the shinkansen was more punctual. Personally, I like the way the Japanese embrace things. Trains, manga, etc. There is a certain seriousness to having fun that is only expressed by the Japanese: If you're going to have fun, take it seriously!!! Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
Mudkip Orange
Considering the quality of what the Gawker Media properties usually put out, that's several cuts above. "What is Japan's fetish" is the title of a weekly series they run; they just happened to focus on trains for this installment. Link to comment
