westfalen
It's been a while since I posted any video from my holidays last year so here's some freight action taken over about an hour one morning last September at Yono in Tokyo's northern suburbs. 6 Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
A good spot to catch freight trains, as Yono is near the connection with the Musashino Line, which serves as a loop line/bypass for freight trains. Seems reasonably uncrowded on the platform too, though "uncrowded" is relative as in this case it means 24,800 passengers/day, or about the same total number of passengers that use stations on the Caltrain commuter line in San Fransisco and Santa Clara counties combined daily. A nice variety of loco types, I especially like those howling EF66's on the container trains. Link to comment
stevenh
That EF66 with the headmark is a classic... I can't read what the headmark says though... if it's heading north then it might be for the relief effort? Link to comment
Nick_Burman
Note container train with "covered gondola" containers and stacked empty steel rod carriers. Container trains need not be dull... Cheers NB Link to comment

That's it, even the same loco, see the photo below. Handy having a camera that can take stills and video at the same time. "Seems reasonably uncrowded on the platform too, though "uncrowded" is relative" Even here I shared the platform with a Japanese railfan, he got excited when EF66 27 came through but when he saw blue and white EF64 1004 he was like a baseball fan whose team had just won the finals. KenS
That's an impressive number of freight trains for an hour. And some of them were making good time too. Even in passenger-centric Japan, there's enough freight action to be interesting. And a nice selection of motive power. Love the EH500 at the end. Link to comment

I almost missed the EH500 because I was going to hop on a train back into town but at the last minute decided for some reason to wait for the next one, the EH500 came along while I was waiting. My own favorite is the EF64 barreling through with containers overtaking the empty tank car train. 1 Link to comment
