This one I completely missed, as I wasn't aware of its existence until latest rail mags were on the bookstore racks recently. The kiha 52 was acquired from JR West, and is a former Oito Line unit. The unit appears to be funded by donations/subscriptions from a supporters group, much like a preserved railway. It runs on weekends and holidays only, as an "express", requiring a 300 yen surcharge. The Isumi Railway has suddenly become more interesting to me, up to now I would have merely turned back upon arriving at Kazusa Nakano on a Kominato Rlwy train. The Boso Peninsula has become a valhalla of sorts for DMH17 powered railcars. 1 Link to comment
