Royal Navy and British Merchant Navy records

Hi all,

 

This is mainly for the Brits in the forum...does anyone know where can I search for a person's Royal Navy/British Merchant Navy records? My grandfather's brother was a merchantman who apparently served in the Royal Navy during WWII, I would like to see his service records so I can look up on which ships he was allocated to.

Nick try a post at http://www.britishmedalforum.com/index.php. VERY helpful and knowledge people there that will point you in exactly the right direction. There is also a member there, Gunner1, who does research for a reasonable price.

You might also go straight to the source and see if you can access the Admiratly archive records.  I know my mother has done this for her Uncle and other prior ancestors but I'm not sure what she had to do to get there.
