Did I forget to say that Mitsui Miike (please don't come with that MCLC nonsense... :lipssealed:) is my favorite Japanese industrial pike? :grin One of their little steeplecab motors (with ubiquitous and unique battery tender attached) trundles a short container train from the yard to the factory (they seldom go down to the JR interchange, that run is the fief of the wartime Toshiba 40-tonners). Not only it contains the usual tanktainers, but (oooh, aaahh) also a cut of ISO containers - a scene for sore eyes...

Interesting grade crossing in the second video, never saw anything like that before.

Yes, that's the older style of grade crossing apparatus.

When do they choose panto-up over panto-down?

Pan down means that the loco has come from/is going into the factory - the siding leading into it and the spurs within it have no overhead wiring.

That explains the battery cars(slugs?).  Where is this railroad?  I couldn't find it on wiki.

Battery tender. The railroad is in the outskirts of Omuta in Kyushu - it used to run around town serving coal mines and industries but today it is a reduced to switching the Mitsui Chemical plan and a connection to JR.
