Tokaido Shinkansen 1966

8mm film of a family journey from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka.

 

1:00- apparently back then you could take a look inside the driver's cab if you asked...

1:40- arrival at Nagoya, at approx. 1:51 you catch a glimpse of the old station building in the background

2:25- a glimpse of a D51 "namekuji type" on the nearby freight line

2:47- Meitetsu panorama car!, then a JNR 165 or 153 series express w/buffet car

3:04- the old Meitetsu house colors of brown and cream

3:27- arrival Kyoto

3:54- Shin-Osaka

4:35- Redcap porter

That was certainly interesting.  I took a video like this (minus the family parts) just last year, so it was pretty cool to contrast it with that.

 

I have only known the new Kyoto station, so it was pretty neat to see how that used to be.  And I don't remember being able to see Kyoto Tower so clearly anymore, I think there are more buildings in front of it now.
