Tosaden
Hi there, I´m looking for books about japanese rail oder trams. Unfortunately I can read japanese, so I must try my luck to find english books. Do you some of this topic that are still available? I hope this is the correct place to post my question. bill937ca
Motor Books in the UK has a section on Japan and the Orient. http://www.motorbooks.co.uk/showsect.asp?id=161 Electric Railways of Japan covers interurbans and trams in 3 volumes, but it dates back to 1995. Still, apart from low floor cars much of the tram information is still valid. Link to comment
Guest ___
You know with the number of people, pictures, and knowledge, one would think sooner or later the board could make its own book or something. Link to comment
bill937ca
In many ways I think the internet has killed the need and market for books. Its a little different with DVDs as many are produced on demand. And an all region DVD player opens up a whole new world of specialist railway DVDs. Link to comment
Guest ___
Of course, one could note that YouTube and video hosting as well as on-demand is going to be the nail in the coffin for DVD. Link to comment
Nick_Burman
Far Wheels I and II by Charles Small has some Japanese content. From the same author there is also "Rails to the Setting Sun". Wally Higgns's "Showa 30s" books are in Japanese but the author has furnished translations for part of the text. There is also a book called "Japan by Rail" and the book (books?) issued by the East Japan Railway Culture Foundation. Cheers NB Link to comment

A lot DVDs today are already on demand (hence no inventory costs) and are better viewed on a TV than a computer. Link to comment

Hulu and Netflix do a good job with it as well as digital cable providers like Comcast, but other sectors have not done well such as the anime industry who lost money on digital broadcasting. Persoanlly, I suspect DVD and BD will go the way of the CD before all too long. Then again, they said print was dead 30 years ago, and yet bookstores still sell books, go figure. Link to comment
