Nishitetsu Omuta-sen

Never mind the music, here is some footage from that railroad that someone in the web once commented as possessing some of Japan's ugliest private railway rolling stock (although let us be honest, the stainless steel trains look attractive...) - Nishitetsu.

OK, the railway isn't one which runs speed merchants (like, say, Kintetsu), however it looks rather rough and unkempt...although the ROW does have some of the character of some of the erstwhile US high-speed interurbans (North Shore springs to mind).

That first type in the video, 5000 or 6000/6050 series, does look bad, yes.  The asymmetrical windshield design was certainly a misguided decision.  JR West and JR Kyushu wound up with something similar by modifying KIHA58s.  Not having quite the same proportions as a KIHA40 they have always looked strange to me, and the result of the modification is nearly unspeakable and looks quite hamfisted.  Maybe junior employees at the shop were allowed to do it, I don't know.  But as for Nishitetsu, some of their newer stock looks very nice, namely the 3000 series.  Almost like if JR Central's 313s weren't orange and ugly.  Heinous railcar design aside, I love that music.

Is this a standard gauge railway?  The tracks don't look like Cape gauge.

Yes, it is.

Nishitetsu lines:

1435 mm (all south of Fukuoka):

Tenjin Ōmuta (Nishitetsu-Fukuoka (Tenjin) - Nishitetsu-Futsukaichi  - Miyanojin  - Ōmuta): 74.8 km

Dazaifu (Nishitetsu-Futsukaichi - Dazaifu): 2.4 km

Amagi (Miyanojin -Amagi) : 17.9 km

1067 mm (NE of Fukuoka):

Kaizuka (Kaizuka - Nishitetsu-Shingū): 11.0 km

Funny because I juste love this train.

Both asymmetrical windshield and light blue color scheme make this train really special.

Plus it was the one that I rode every morning when I lived in Fukuoka, so it's definitely a model I'd like to own! I think MicroAce released/was about to release two different sets.

The color is pleasant, that's for sure.  I wasn't trying to offend criticizing the windshield design, I'm sure if I rode it I'd like it too, that's the primary reason I like the particular models that I do.
