bikkuri bahn
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fn1qE0z3HmI Last night on TV Tokyo's program "Dawn of Gaia", there was a segment about the development of JR East's E5 trainset, which will debut this Saturday on the Hayabusa service between Tokyo and Shin Aomori. Especially interesting is the segment about a test run up to the top speed of 320km/h. Some notes: At 1:37: an interior shot of the Sakura/Mizuho N700, 2+2 seating in standard class looks very roomy 5:04: a visit to the JR East Shinkansen general maintenance facility at Sendai (Rifu-cho) 6:07: introduces the project leader for the E5, JR East's Endo Tomoyuki 6:27: one reason for the shape of the trainset is to make it quieter than the E2 trainset at the same speed 6:50: predecessor to the E5, the Fastech 7:16: a meeting of staff of main parties involved in the E5 development- in addition to JR East, 5 members from Kawasaki Heavy, 1 from Hitachi, 3 from Mitsubishi Electric, and 2 from Toshiba. JR East collaborated with 100 companies in the development of the E5. 7:54: GranClass seating, made in Germany leather seats, 45 degree reclining 8:54: gathering for a test run of the E5 to check safety and ride comfort 9:40: Notch up! 10:15: checking the pantograph, this design is a new one. The original Tohoku shinkansen trainsets had 8 pantographs for a 16 car trainset *(continued with next post) 1 Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
(continued) ...while a ten car E5 has only one pantograph up in operation. The pantograph is a new design, with a "piano key" arrangement to maintain contact with the catenary wire at high speeds and reduce noise. 12:00: 320km/h is reached 12:25: Mr. Endo checks vibration. 320km/h is considered the current limit given safety and noise concerns. The test run lasted 2 hours. 13:07: a coupe of nice shots of the E5 running through snowy landscape Link to comment
The_Ghan
Great video. Thanks for posting it. I'm really glad I've got an E5 on reserve with HS. I can't wait to get it. Cheers The_Ghan Link to comment
miyakoji
Interesting video, thanks Bikkuri. I hadn't realized that both of the Fastech test trains have already been scrapped! Quite an investment, looks like it paid off, though. Eguchi Yosuke did a good job hosting, I really liked Lunch no Joou several years back. Had nothing to do with Takeuchi Yuko, mind you, and I don't long to see her in the role of a conductor or motorwoman. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Eguchi Yosuke did a good job hosting, I really liked Lunch no Joou several years back. Had nothing to do with Takeuchi Yuko, mind you, and I don't long to see her in the role of a conductor or motorwoman. Yes, TV Tokyo has a good number of programs and documentaries that unlike the other commerical networks, aren't marred by the use of pinhead geinin "talents" with their yakking and stupid quizzes. It shows the benefits of being the mouthpiece of Nihon Keizai Shimbun. Eguchi has a calm measured presence, appropriate for a business program. As for female hosts, the highlight for me was a program on NHK (Science Zero I think), about the fastech, which had Megumi Yasu- suffice to say, I spent a bit more time looking at a "caboose", and that wasn't on the train Next, can TV Tokyo have Sayaka Isoyama ride the E5, please?? 1 Link to comment
