Anyone know where this is, or what it is?

This is a picture from a Calendar, my better half gets one every year for Christmas from her friend in Japan.  It's Japanese Text only, so have no idea where it is, when we looked closely, they almost look like carvings, but that could just be our old eyes playing tricks.

Reminds of those rock formations carved by erosion in Cappadocia (Turkey).

That's Yamaga-Zao. Those are peculiar frost structures that form on a particular kind of tree due to a particular moisture-laden wind from Siberia that blows during the winter.

I was just there last week. Beautiful weather, and looks just like that picture in the calender. Worth a visit!
