scott
Does anybody know how far north and south you would find Niigata-liveried trains? Do they run along the whole length of the Uetsu main line to Akita? And to the south--I've seen pictures of them on the Echigo line to Kashiwazaki, but how far south do they go on the Shin-etsu line? I'd guess they *could* go as far as Naoetsu to meet the Hokuriku line, but I have no idea. Link to comment

These are DC 1500v units, so they cannot range further than Naoetsu in the south, and Murakami in the north. Also, south of Naoetsu is JR West territory. North of Murakami, local services are handled by DMUs, as JR Niigata depot has no local train stock that is AC 20kv capable. 1 Link to comment
scott
Yeah, the 115s were definitely part of what I was looking for--thanks! And I see from Wikipedia that the E127s are also DC. It looks like, as far as electrics go, the 701s from Akita get as far down as Tsuruoka. I suppose they theoretically could get as far as Murakami. But AFAIK nobody makes a model of the Akita 701 yet. Anyway--thanks again, BB--that was really helpful! Link to comment
