westfalen
Not as serious as it sounds when you read it. The grand mother was probably in a state of panic though. Link to comment
Bernard
I glad the 3-year old is alright! We have station platform gaps on the LIRR and the worst station is in Syosset which happens to be the station I get on. Here is a news video showing the problem: http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/video?id=7253337 Link to comment
ToniBabelony
16 cm isn't much, but still enough to let a small kid slip through. I guess one can only do so much to prevent accidents like these. Link to comment

I guess one can only do so much to prevent accidents like these. I wonder, though. Granted, they are no HST, and none ever passes a station without stoppibg, but our local light rail system here in St Louis manages platform gaps of at most 2cm, and most places about 1cm. Surely there are measures that could be taken elsewhere... Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Some of the stations are on curves, such as the LIRR case, gaps are inevitable. If you thought 8cm was a gaping hole, check out Tobu Asakusa Station: http://asianmonsoon.blog.so-net.ne.jp/_images/blog/_651/asianmonsoon/1811869_large-fda50.jpg Link to comment
