Great question, I hadn't considered it. So, I googled it. This blogger http://msablog.jigowatt.org/?eid=1033106 is estimating a total of 41,510 yen. Link to comment

Of course you will be able to use a JR pass as long as you don't travel on Nozomi or Mizuho trains. I've done Morioka to Hakata with changes of trains at Tokyo and Shin-Kobe. Link to comment

Around 40'000¥ and 12 hours trip! ^^ You would also like to consider plane for this trip, but I can't say that on a train enthusiasts forum! ;-) Link to comment
risingsun
40,000Y is pretty steep, but it would be much prettier than flying. I can't wait to try this rail out. I watched the video and I am very excited. How long have they been working on this rail? Link to comment

You save Y11,700 and have six more days to travel for 'free'. Link to comment
Fat Al
I'm in Sendai now, going to Aomori in a few days with the rail pass. Too bad though, I won't be here when the E5 starts rolling. But they had the E5 Gran Class seats here on display in Sendai station. I must say, they're better than most airlines' business class seats! Link to comment
