Tecchan
A bit of a Yufuin no Mori feeling: 4 cars, all rounded, etc. Link to comment
disturbman
Which service is that? This train looks brand new and empty (except for the crew going around). It also looks a lot like JR East Joyfull Train version of the Series 485 (Hana, Seseragi and Yamanami). Link to comment
scott
[murmur] JR Oomiya yuan hen mountain resort 485 Series East Misao Oomiya Yono I think I'll wait for a real translation. Link to comment
miyakoji
One of tobu2181's videos, nice. I assume by 元・せせらぎ he's saying it was the former Seseragi train. Here's a blog post from 9:34 (AM?, JST presumably) about the Resort Seseragi leaving Tokyu Car: http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/tc189_9025m/22689456.html . They must have done the work. Link to comment
disturbman
Indeed, from Wikipedia page on the Joyfull trains: Resort Yamadori, rebuilt from the ex-Seseragi. It will be based at Takasaki depot with the Yamanami and should enter service during this year. Nice train and it looks like this was shot before it entered services. Link to comment
stevenh
Is there another series in the Japan Railway history that has had sooooo many face lifts? The 485 has to go down in history for the most revivals. Link to comment
KenS
The 485 series trains (and related 48x trains) have certainly had a long and diverse life. And I think they were used for the Joyful trains partly because the type is a versatile platform (DC or AC, 50 or 60 Hz, so it can run on any of the "normal" electrified narrow-gauge lines). But another reason is likely to be simply that there were a lot of them, which are now being obsoleted by newer trains, and it's cheaper to convert one than to build a one-off for charter use. miyakoji
From http://rail-uploader.khz-net.com/index.php?id=942999, here's a good hi-res image. A quick comparison to images of 485s doesn't show any similarities in the carbody, I guess Tokyu scrapped all the original sheet metal and built an entirely new body on the 485 chassis.
