Sir Madog
I am the proud owner of a Kato D51. It is equipped with a core-less motor. Can I continue to use my DC cab with pulse width modulation to run the loco, or am I running the risk of destroying the motor? Link to comment
KenS
I don't have experience with coreless motors, but from what I've read they do have a tendency to overhead when used with pulsed power (pulsed DC or DCC decoders that output PWM without being designed for coreless use). That said, Kato's own power packs put out a mildly pulsed form of DC (they appear to leave the rectified AC unfiltered, so on an oscilloscope it looks like a bunch of hills) and presumably that much would be safe for a Kato train.
