Motor Scooters

Recommended Posts

I'm working on an European themed tram layout and I've been looking for motor scooters as opposed to bicycles. I though there were none available and then realized today that Kato has a couple of motor scooters in their 24-235 delivery set and 24-233 mail set.

I think Noch had a set at one time, but it seems not to be available. Anyone know any other sources?

i have thought of trying to make moulds of the various scooters in latex or sculpy and then see if i could cast my own. they aint cheap anyway you go. tomytec are reasonable, but you only get 2 scooters, but bicyclists are great. if you dont want the motorcyclists i think you will find there are a number of people out there who want them, or you could put a biker bar in your tram layout!

cheers

wow, great sale on those pewter scooters and three different versions! only issue will be to bend up riders for them!

i talked with the 3D printing chap that did a batch of road cones for me a couple of years back about doing a vespa. should be able to make a lot pretty cheaply, but coming up with the cad model was going to be all the work. there were files out there, but was going to take a bit of time on his part to clean them up well enough use with his system and that would drive the price up.

these pewter castings look nicer than many other of the metal castings as well.

also some jet skis for you water folks...

cheers

I really don't need riders for mine.  Its quite common to find rows of them parked up on the edge of the sidewalk along streets just wide enough for trams in Milan. Should fit in very nice with my trams.

You will just have to get your magnifying glasses out to do a little painting!

figured i would do the same so bought some to just line up like that.

yeah that was before the tomytec came out as they were reasonably priced, painted and can use the bicycles as well.

casting is a bit of work to do well on something this small. As i mentioned below i also looked at having them done by the 3D printer, but the setup was going to get pricy for the CAD file and some tests. road cones were dirt simple and there was a pre existing CAD file for the ISO road cone that he was able to use straight away!

at 50 cents each for these pewter ones i would not take the time to try and cast them, but when they were more like $5-10 each it was worth it...

Just got my scooters and jet skis from this guy. they are very nice castings! at little over 50 cents/scooter really great price. i should be able to paint a batch at a time easily and quickly if i can come up with a good sequence for painting them. i got a gob of them as someday i think it would be fun to have both a scooter park and also a small scooter shop with a line of scooters out side.

got a couple of jet skis for curts beach, that should make a fun scene! maybe have one chased by the shark...

anyhow great product and good bang for the buck, so im a very happy camper! thanks keiman for pointing those out! i need to do more consistent searches for stuff like that as batches of stuff like this turn up on ebay like that!

cheers

btw the guy was nice and threw in a snowmobile and motorcycle as a thank you for me buying a small pile at once i guess!

Found it pays to scan Ebay regulary- have found a few bargins that way, some of it sitting waiting for me to decide where i shall use it.

Yeah i do a lot fo scanning and also auto searches, but scooters had fallen off the list of things to look for... ebay is great for those hard to find things and looking for those killer deals. takes pertinence and the understanding even though you find something, someone else may be willing to pay more than you for it and you wont get it! but patience pays off!

i too bought more scooters than i was thinking i would need as they were such a good price and im sure other ideas will come up later then they will be more expensive! im liking the scooter shop now a lot!

i cleaned up a batch last night and ill ultrasound clean them today and maybe start trying some paint schemes on them tonight. i have a few fine brushes on order, i find the fine artist brushes dont work well on little item painting like this -- not the same as painting a picture i expect. so im trying the fine fingernail decoration brushes to see if they work better.

cheers,

jeff
