bikkuri bahn
Nothing new here, but noteworthy when a JR railcar is mentioned in the mainstream press (albeit not by model number, it's the Kiha E200): http://www.economist.com/node/17791989 Link to comment
cteno4
nice article, thanks! gotta love the economist, last bastion of great content! btw if anyone wants the economist subscription ($110/yr ouch, but worth it if you have the time and inclination to read it) you can get it for 3200 united air miles, the best bang for the buck you can get with those miles! you also get the mobile/ipad edition and the ipad version is one of the best ipod mag apps around. cheers jeff Link to comment
brill27mcb
Hey Jeff, does United have a similar deal for the high-priced Railway Gazette International? My source of second-hand ones decided he could no longer afford the subscription price. I miss the articles and bi-annual review of high-speed train services! Rich K. Link to comment
cteno4
Rich, I wish, the only thing that was of interest in the mags to me was the economist. i did just see they started to pick up local newspapers as well. its a good deal on the wash post here, but we are nyt folks so i doubt i would do it, but was tempted to get the sunday edition to finally have some funnies again! do miss that sunday morning (yes im still a 7 year old at heart...) really is the best value to use the miles on. i cant fly on united anymore as they have cramped the econ seats soo much for the econ plus that i just dont fit (im 6' 4"). i had a run in with the guy sitting in front of me a year or so ago as he could not put his seat back, but i had no place to put my legs so he could as i was so shoe horned into the seat, sitting at very odd angles. he got irate and the stewardess finally threatened that he would be met by air marshals at the gate when we landed and that shut him up. now i avoid united like the plague... actually the plague might be more comfortable. cheers jeff Link to comment
