Water question

I have a river on my layout and a lake, here is my problem, I've used Realistic water by WS on both those areas but I'm going to need a lot more. My problem, the price just went up at the retail store I buy from. (they're prices aren't bad)

I was going to use WS E-Z water pellets but I heard bad things about it but it's about $5 less than Realistic water plus I don't know how it will mix with the Realistic water.

 

Does anybody have an idea what else I can use instead of those two products at a lesser cost?

Bill, thanks its a really good article. I know someone who used casting resin and the results were fantastic BUT the smell lasted for days.
