Kamiyacho
As a alternative to the usually discussion of trains and electronics I thought I would share, for the benefit of those who like scenery, this picture of the status of the installation of my Tomytec fish market. There was a empty space along the side of my fishing port which was near enough to the tracks to provide access for freight cars, but installing the building at track height meant that it was 10 scale feet or so above the level of the dock. (While counter-sinking the building into the layout in an effort to help bridge the gap I discovered more plywood than foam - you never know what you will find once you start to dig holes!). I've been scratch-building a ramp so that the fishermen can get up and down with the catch of the day. Haven't quite finished the railings yet, and it still needs to be painted. Overall I am pleased with how this area is progressing. 5 Link to comment
cteno4
Curt, great progress, this is going to be a great scene when you get your hyper details in there! i can just see a fish auction going on at the market! going to start making sculpy tunas?! you need one of the prohobby little electric tractors pulling a couple wagons of fish crates going up the ramp! they look great on this scene. i have a couple if you want to check them out. also dont forget your seagulls! please do keep adding threads on your little scenes like this, they are wonderful to follow and great at getting ideas going! you are motivating me to start putting in the details i got for my harbor buildings. have to start working on the fish tubs for the warehouse! got the forklift, pallete lift, and a bunch of misc boxes and pallets to go in. cheers jeff Link to comment
cteno4
ok i figured out how to do my fish crates. using the evergreen rectangular styrene i can cut off nice little boxes using the chop saw. then just make top out of a piece of strip and a bottom out of a piece of channel stock so that two rails are made for the forklift tines to slide under the crate. just need to wait for the proper size channel stock to come over to our local store. btw just found out our local hobby shop chain (hobbyworks) will transfer stock w/in a few days to get any evergreen i want. just phone them up and then they phone you when the order is in. nice! going to make some smaller square boxes as well w/o the rails and some shallow trays. the little harbor freight chop saw is really quite nice for $28. i picked it up thinking it would be good for small wood stuff in the shop at first, but really much better for the model stuff. cuts styrene well thats the razor chopper wont cut squarely (razor blade tends to bend). makes a very clean cut, just a bit of burr that actually all comes off with a finger rub! i was able to take some pretty thin sections off the rectangular stock! only down side is that there is no sort of stop to set to cut a bunch of things off at the same length, but easily added or just a small clamp. great addition to a modeling shop and pretty cheap to boot! http://www.harborfreight.com/bench-top-cut-off-saw-42307.html cheers jeff Link to comment
