bikkuri bahn
Does anyone know what is 'norokko' means? It's a combination of "noro noro", meaning to amble along slowly or aimlessly, with "torokko", which is used for similar open cars used for sightseeing trains (the term was originally used for freight cars/barrows used on narrow gauge logging and mining operations, think "Indy Jones"or "Scooby Doo"). 1 Link to comment
miyakoji
A YT search on Mashike Norokko-go (増毛ノロッコ号) turns up more videos than looking for the bbq car itself. All videos by m6s24hst. On the Rumoi Main Line: Some scenes of Ashimoi Station: and another: Link to comment
Guest ___
What JR-E needs to do is stick one in the middle of a E231 set just as a lark during the evening rush on the Yamanote. Link to comment
Sacto1985
Interestingly, the August 2012 issue of TRAINS magazine had a long article on trains on Hokkaido, and a short sidebar story mentioned special "Norokko" sightseeing trains that travel up to Furano during the summer where you can see the lavender flower fields around Furano. 1 Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Interestingly, the August 2012 issue of TRAINS magazine had a long article on trains on Hokkaido, and a short sidebar story mentioned special "Norokko" sightseeing trains that travel up to Furano during the summer where you can see the lavender flower fields around Furano. On that note, the author lived for a year here in Sapporo, and taught at a local high school. Resident foreigner railfans are pretty rare, much less in Hokkaido, as the transient residents are more the "snowboarding and bar hopping" demographic. http://www.scottlothes.com/hokkaido/ http://trn.trains.com/Interactive/Web%20Exclusives/2012/06/Hokkaido.aspx 1 Link to comment
Guest ___
Speaking with Japanese railfans in Kansai, one would have the impression that even visiting railfans were something many were not use to seeing. Link to comment
miyakoji
Two BBQ cars, NAHA 29001 and 29002, in a chartered train of KIHA40s from Ebetsu to Niki and back with some out-of-service maneuvering between Naebo and Ebetsu, and during layover at Niki. Maybe they had to get it out of the way? The SL Niseko service was running that day between Otaru and Shikaribetsu, apparently a lot of railfans were out photographing. Nothing on Ompuchaneru or YT, unfortunately. http://railf.jp/news/2012/10/09/160000.html Link to comment
