bikkuri bahn
Lesson one: don't trespass on the railroad, especially on a bridge(!) Lesson two: don't trespass on a U.S. railroad, where freights can come anytime (no schedules), and passenger train schedules are just estimates (or hopes). http://edition.cnn.com/2010/US/08/27/north.carolina.ghost.train/index.html?iref=obinsite Link to comment
KenS
One of the problems here is that there are so few active rail lines left, and so many abandoned or nearly-abandoned (i.e. one trip a week or less) lines, that people aren't used to thinking about trains as a danger. As a result, they trespass and often get killed by trains they never heard coming (riding noisy motor bikes or wearing headphones) or that they couldn't escape. But crossing a bridge in the dark, and one which was probably fenced and would have had large "no trepassing" signs and other warnings at the end, is still behavior worthy of a Darwin award.
