I can't make out how the shinkansen tracks are supposed to mate up: THey are at rather different angles to each other...

 

It's a ramp - they're gonna jump to their deaths :)

 

 

Except Kyushu Shinkansen are equipped with flux capacitor. At 88 mp/h (scale: 0.586 mp/h) they just arrive on the bridge when it's constructed with the future Tomix Flex track that doesn't exist yet!

It's the time machine train from Back To The Future III.

Except from that, I don't know the original model. But probably a good ol' US "Far West" train! ^_^

The locomotive that portrayed No. 131 was "Sierra Railway No. 3", built in 1891 by Rogers Locomotive Works of Paterson N.J., [3]and brought to California in 1897 -- one of several historic trains at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown, Calif. It is also known as the "movie star" steam locomotive because of its appearance in over 100 films and television shows. Sierra No. 3 has been under restoration since 1998, and is expected to be back on display in April 2010 at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown, California.

Ah, it's THAT loco, wearing Hollywood make-up! 

 

I visited Jamestown some years back, but didn't take all that much notice of No.3, because I was mesmerised by the magnificent collection of ancient machine tools in the Sierra Railway roundhouse and backshop. Also I got talking to their boilermaker, who graciously showed me all his specialised - and equally old - gear. As lovely as old locos like No.3 are, I'm even more interested in the infracstructure needed to support steam loco operations.

I watched some of it this afternoon - the scenes featuring the loco. Can't honestly say I was impressed. But that's okay, to each their own!

Well. If you looked only the worst parts of the trilogy... The frist and second movie are anthologic with all the time paths riss-crossing each others. :)

Chris, neither. Earlier on there was a photo posted of a strange looking steam loco, which I was curious to know more about. I'd be quite happy to separate discussion of this into its own thread, but I have no idea how to do that, or even if I can.
