German speaking members of this forum may be interested in this nicely photographed documentary produced by the TV network 3Sat for their science program Hitec- the focus is on JR East's operations in central Tokyo (especially Shinjuku Station), but also bits about shinkansen and the maglev in Yamanashi.  I'm impressed they described the digital ATC system.

I'm sure it would be more interesting to someone who understands German, but even without that there is a fair amount of good video of Tokyo-area JR trains, and you can somewhat figure out what they're talking about in much of it, even it the details don't get through.
