maxa1
Brian, remember there are no buildings and so on commercial available to create the distinct flavor of China. However you can get away with some modern European or US style buildings plus scratchbuilding of course. Their older catenary looks pretty much like the German one, so Sommerfeld, etc can supply if you chose to have electrics on your layout.Good luck with your new layout. Max Link to comment

jappomania
Hi Brian! I finally found one more crazy than me! I've started (but now aborted) a similar project but in N scale and my choice was the Republic of China (Taiwan) First I bought the T700 Shinkansen (on Ebay from Lifan Wu, this guy is a really friend) and after some PPT 1000 sets directly from Kibu http://www.wretch.cc/blog/kibu/7113299 http://www.wretch.cc/blog/kibu/14997137 and 2 special sets from touch-rail with an big help of Lifan Wu http://www.touch-rail.com.tw/index_down.php?alltit=---&sele=hstyle&TtCH=ac&hstyle=13&HPnum=16 (until now I never found a direct shop for these trains, if someone know...) For now I stopped this project but I have some docs if you wanna try to kitbashing japanese models to obtain Taiwanese prototype (the reason is because 99% of old stock are produced in japan, especially steam loco like C57 and similar) more infos... http://www.tts.tw/ (google translations work at 90%) if you wanna change from RPC to ROC layout let me know ciao Massimo Link to comment
ToniBabelony
http://www.wretch.cc/blog/kibu/14997137 I'd never have expected this kind of advertisements outside of Japan! 「日本一番」"No. 1 in Japan", can also be read as: "Japan is No. 1"! Would never work in the PRC, only in the ROC. I knew the Taiwanese had some kind of friendly tendency towards Japan, but I never expected it to be this strong. Then again, I met a guy from Taipei a few years ago whose grandfather served the Japanese army (as a full volunteer) in WW2. Also, the Japanese boosted the island as well with loads of infrastructure and other modern improvements (the people in Taiwan were practically in the dark ages until Japan took over from the Dutch IIRC). That's why Google works 90% of the time! The train is advertising a brand of 「空調」 air conditioniners call 「日本一番」"No. 1 in Japan". In the subsequent cars, it advertises the air conditioners as long lasting, comfortable, quiet and energy saving. You can read all about Daikin here. http://www.daikin.com/global_ac/index.html As for Taiwan's relationship with Japan, it is more like Hong Kong's view plus with a history of once being a Japan colony called Republic of Formosa.
