The Kato version should be on the market now. According to Kato Japan it was released June 29.

My apologies for confusion - I should have been a little more explicit, in that I meant 'Cassiopea" as opposed to the 'Hokutosei' livery currently in use.  I believe (based on information from Dave Fossett elsewhere) that the first delivery of the first true Cassiopea-liveried loco EF510.509 is due today 5th.

I like the way the new liveries match the cars being pulled, but I now think this new scheme fails to achieve the charm of the Cassiopeia liveried EF81s.

Best quality video so far, documents the EF510 on the last leg of its journey to Tokyo.  First scene is at Kannami Station (before the Tanna Tunnel), then at Sagami Freight Station, Shin Tsurumi Tower (Shin Kawasaki Station area)- where an EF65 takes over, and finally transiting Minami Senju Station:

it does look good, I must admit. I suppose the better word for it is refreshing. I like silver paint.

Does anyone know if the rest of the order will be in this livery?  I like it too.  I like any variety, really, and JR East seems more successful than any other operator in standardizing their fleet.  The reason is understandable, if less interesting to look at.

I was wondering about this too.  If JR East's EF81s are ready for replacment, then I'd guess JR West's must be too sooner rather than later, and why not just add a few units to this run?  There's gotta be some per-unit incentive.

Sorry to hear that, but it's from the livery on the same par as the 485 Series Yuu-Resort: disco win with an awesome bling-bling disco-style car to boost! Interior photos

 

Too bad it doesn't fit my tram orientated collection, otherwise I'd build myself a funky fleet.

I'd love to see a few of these in stainless steel a la EF81 300 subseries.  I wonder if the stainless really makes that big a difference in the salt air around northern Kyushu.  According to wikipedia they only built 4.
