bill937ca
The Kato version should be on the market now. According to Kato Japan it was released June 29. http://www.katomodels.com/product/nmi/ef510.shtml http://www.katomodels.com/product/viewer/ef510_m_2_ori.jpg Link to comment
angusmclean
My apologies for confusion - I should have been a little more explicit, in that I meant 'Cassiopea" as opposed to the 'Hokutosei' livery currently in use. I believe (based on information from Dave Fossett elsewhere) that the first delivery of the first true Cassiopea-liveried loco EF510.509 is due today 5th. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
At the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Hyogo factory last week: http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/tyaoyama/50665914.html *note the nearby Metro North M-8 unit. Unit in the right background is a Tokyo Metro 16000 series for the Chiyoda Line. Link to comment
CaptOblivious
sah-WEEET| I'd seen illustratgions before, but I'd presumed they were just fantasy. Very nice! Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
First YouTube vids have been posted. First, at Katsuragawa Station, Tokaido Line: Second, at Ishiyama Station, also on the Tokaido Line. Lots of scurrying railfans and an appearance of the "finger of God": 1 Link to comment
CaptOblivious
I like the way the new liveries match the cars being pulled, but I now think this new scheme fails to achieve the charm of the Cassiopeia liveried EF81s. Link to comment
westfalen
If Kato do this loco and a re-run of the Cassiopea cars to go with it I might have to part with some more yen. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Best quality video so far, documents the EF510 on the last leg of its journey to Tokyo. First scene is at Kannami Station (before the Tanna Tunnel), then at Sagami Freight Station, Shin Tsurumi Tower (Shin Kawasaki Station area)- where an EF65 takes over, and finally transiting Minami Senju Station: Link to comment
Fat Al
it does look good, I must admit. I suppose the better word for it is refreshing. I like silver paint. Link to comment
miyakoji
Does anyone know if the rest of the order will be in this livery? I like it too. I like any variety, really, and JR East seems more successful than any other operator in standardizing their fleet. The reason is understandable, if less interesting to look at. Link to comment

miyakoji
Under its own power: *waits impatiently for JR West to announce the Twilight Express model* I was wondering about this too. If JR East's EF81s are ready for replacment, then I'd guess JR West's must be too sooner rather than later, and why not just add a few units to this run? There's gotta be some per-unit incentive. bill937ca
I'm willing to bet that Kato will announce the production of the new EF 510.500 livery and deliver before Tomix. Its been announced by Tomix in both N and HO. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/blog/index.asp?Blog_ID=100708&Eva=5#100708 Type EF510 No.500~ (Cassiopeia) Announcements And also! The actual thing made appearance in the Kawasaki Heavy Industries, the manufacturer on 5th of July that just passed, and had been transported to Tabataso Train Yard, the Cassiopeia color Type EF510. With great timing, it is planned for production in N-Scale. The silver body really matches the passenger cars for the sleeper express "Cassiopeia". That took 4 days. Link to comment

Of course, they also announced the Hokutosei liveried EF510 in N scale at the same time…some four days after Kato released theirs ;) Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Looks like an 80s revival disco king. Well, you've completely ruined this for me. Sorry to hear that, but it's from the livery on the same par as the 485 Series Yuu-Resort: disco win with an awesome bling-bling disco-style car to boost! Interior photos Too bad it doesn't fit my tram orientated collection, otherwise I'd build myself a funky fleet. Link to comment
miyakoji
I'd love to see a few of these in stainless steel a la EF81 300 subseries. I wonder if the stainless really makes that big a difference in the salt air around northern Kyushu. According to wikipedia they only built 4. Link to comment
