inobu
Does anyone have details of this portal, its location or one like it? looking for a closer picture [smg id=909] Add images to the thread Inobu Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Could you tell us the source of the picture? If a recently taken picture, perhaps somewhere on either the Kyushu shinkansen line or the northern end of the Tohoku shinkansen line. I also think in a more populated lowland area, note the rice fields in the foreground as well as the factory/warehouse on the hillside location. I suspect a not too long tunnel that parallels the hill/mountain ridgeline and skirts the edge of farm property. I am not a botanical expert, but there is a clump of the ubiquitous Japanese cedar, therefore it could be almost anywhere south of Hokkaido. Link to comment
inobu
Good call! It is from a blog (2008)and it is filed in Hokkaido » Sapporo section. It is a picture taken en route but nothing else is said about it. actual link http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/2856711 I think it is an ideal portal for via duct. Curious in the details, looks like stairs and the windows almost like a station or something. Thanks for the response. Inobu Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
I found it. It is the Nanbuyama Tunnel SW(?) portal. First tunnel after Hachinohe Station in the Shin-Aomori direction. Picture taken from the parallel 1067mm line, I suppose. Here is the wikimapia view: http://wikimapia.org/#lat=40.5342365&lon=141.4463997&z=16&l=0&m=b I can't find any pics yet of this particular portal, but the other side seems to have some some records (looking in the direction of the Takadate Tunnel): Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Here are some shots of the tunnel portal during construction in 2004 (no. 7 is the portal itself, no. 8 view from above looking in the Tokyo direction): http://www.h2.dion.ne.jp/~merry/hachinohe/hachinohe200409.html Later view in 2007, no. 2 and no. 3: http://www.h2.dion.ne.jp/~merry/hachinohe/hachinohe200712.html#3. bikkuri bahn
Great link! It is an unusual portal design, was it do deduce "tunnel boom"? Likely, plus this is (somewhat) snow country, would be good to have a bit of an extension from the hillside. Link to comment

scott
Inobu--did you want this to become a thread for "reference pictures" of portals? That seems like a good idea. Link to comment
