DN163k0a if memory serves) that is a drop-in replacement for the stock circuit board. Otherwise I can't comment on the relative qualities of the two models. Link to comment

The pulling power of the Tomix EF81 mechanism is jaw-dropping, and it is smooth smooth smooth, especially at low speeds. This is not to say anything bad about my Kato locos: they are awesome. The Tomix is just one step beyond awesome, performance wise. But again, if you want to do DCC, the Tomix EF81 is a very tricky install; the Kato EF81 is drop-in easy. Link to comment
