gmat
A small window of opportunity as Meguro Station is in the middle of installing platform barriers. One side is largely finished and the other hasn't any installed, yet. Taken last night, June 12, 2010. North end of the platform. Taken without flash. Harder to see in these photos, but the white of the more distant barriers are more bleached and the light's glare more pronounced. Taken with low light function. More subdued with the flash illuminating the closest barrier. More to follow, Best wishes, Grant Link to comment
gmat
What made me realize this was I shot this worker standing at the south end of the platform. I then realized that he was warning passengers to be careful when the train comes. There were workers stationed abut every 30 meters or so. Train coming. You can just make out the next worker in the middle background of the photo. The next worker is easier to see here. If any JR or subway workers see this, I'd like to say thank you for tolerating a strange foreigner taking what must seem like some very strange photos. More to come. gmat
There are still some gaps where the barriers have not yet been installed. The other side of the south end of the platform. No barriers installed yet. Train heading towards Shinjuku. Best wishes, Grant Link to comment
gmat
In the third set, two photos were switched. I've corrected it. Best wishes, Grant Link to comment
TestudoToTetsudo
Thanks for the photos! Those platform gates do seem to go up pretty high... Could the remaining gaps in the platform be where the 6-door cars stop on the platform? Anyone know when their last day will be? I'm glad I got photos of the 6-door cars when I did. Although I'd wonder, for the Yamanote Line, from a pure capacity standpoint and what I saw last year, wouldn't it have been best to hold off on eliminating the 6-door cars until the Tokaido Honsen-Takasaki/Utsunomiya sen connection is completed and open? I recall that being the busiest stretch in the peak when I rode it and this connection will take a lot of pressure off of it. Link to comment
Guest ___
Too am I glad I got shots of the cattle cars, but to note, I already hate the new barriers, but they sure beat what they got in Singapore which are floor to ceiling with full height elevator doors. We're talking about retrofitting all the station in DC Metro with them. The pre-lim images I've seen look ugly as all hell, much worse than what the Yamanote is getting. Link to comment
westfalen
At least you should still be able see over the top of the barriers to take photos of trains on adjacent tracks at places like Tamachi or Gotanda. Link to comment
