gmat
When I started taking photos of trains a few months ago, it was pretty unorganized. I took these on an impromptu bicycle trip after a class. I started from near Uguisudani Station on the Yamanote line and cycled towards the Sumida river. I ended up near this station but neglected to record it or take a photo of the station name. Here are some trains that passed by the station. Don't know which they are either. Station in the background. Pedestrian walkway next to the station. Sumida river in the background. Thank you for any help. Best wishes, Grant 1 Link to comment
bill937ca
I can't tell you the station, but it is on the Tobu Railway. Link to comment
gmat
Thank you for your help. I checked a Google map, but it's in Japanese, but could it be Horikiri Station? I thought that I going the other way so I thought that I was on the other side of the river. Best wishes, Grant Link to comment
ToniBabelony
It's definately Horiki station. The layout with the blue footbridge and river fit perfectly. The river however is the Arakawa and not the Sumida River. Over on top of the railway runs Expressway No. 6. Link Link to comment
gmat
Sorry, You're right. I don't usually venture towards that part of the city. Thank you for your help. Best wishes, Grant Link to comment

bikkuri bahn
Thanks for those nice snapshots, gmat. Horikiri Station is one of my favorite Tokyo area stations, only several stops outside of the Asakusa terminus, but it has a nice, almost pastoral atmosphere, despite the many trains that pass through. So much so that it has been termed by one book author "an air pocket (of calm) in the middle of the metropolis". As everyone can see it's on a curve, wedged between the Arakawa River and the dense shitamachi neighborhood. I like the station headhouse, which thankfully has been not modernised much: source:http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%A0%80%E5%88%87%E9%A7%85 Horikiri is a good place to visit in combination with Hikifune Station up the line toward Asakusa, especially if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the center city but don't have much time. There is open space with lots of grass next to the Arakawa River which I found a nice place to take a break with a cold drink. Also, there is a ramen shop located adjacent forming part of the tiny commercial zone around the station "rotary". Haven't tried it, but one of these days... Link to comment
gmat
Thank you Toni, Glad to be here. Thanks Bikkuri Bahn, I may cycle that way again one day. Mostly I visit train routes near or on the way to my student's homes or when I go walking or hiking with my wife. I usually am on the western side of Tokyo. Best wishes, Grant Link to comment
gmat
This is one more, probably the last. I think that this might be near Minamisenju station. There is a pedestrian overpass where I snapped this diesel. Can anyone recognize the background. It was late on the same day that I had visited the station above, and I don't think I snapped any more. Thank you for any help. Best wishes, Grant Link to comment
marknewton
I recognise this yard but I'm buggered if I can remember the name of it. There was an article on it a few years back in JRM, but I can't even find that issue... Cheers, Mark. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
I think it's the Sumidagawa Freight Station. http://wikimapia.org/#lat=35.7329708&lon=139.8020446&z=17&l=7&m=b Link to comment
marknewton
Yes, that's it! Good on yer, BB! Cheers, Mark. Link to comment
gmat
Thank you bikkuri bahn. I was thinking that I was looking the other direction, towards the west, but it was really east towards the freight yard. Shows how my memory plays tricks on me. Thank you, Mark, also.
