Hi Guys,

Just a few quick questions about Kato single viaduct track:

1) Are 2 singles compatible to the double track; so that you can go from a double track (viaduct or ground) to the 2 single, side by side, viaduct track?

2) Do the 2 singles, side by side, snap together? (I thought I read somewhere that Kato bridges snap together at the sides).

3) and can you unsnap them to have one paired single going straight and the other taking a curve?

4) is there much "give" to the track to go up and then down an elevated section, via piers? (Or is the elevation really done in the curve part of the track?)

Just in case Kato and Tomix fail to provide turnouts to their tram tracks I am thinking about elevations!

Thanks in advance for your time!

Rick

Tomix tram has already been announced without any new turnouts.

hey hey,

To answer your questions - Yes.

However - the single viaduct pieces do not snap together side-by-side.  They are held at the 33mm track spacing by clipping them into piers.  If you wanted to curve one viaduct piece away from the other you can, you would just switch from double-track piers to single piers.  Single piers can be used side-by-side, but may look a little strange.

Kato makes several type of bridges in single and double-track forms, but none of them clip together side-to-side, although the double track ones provide their usual 33mm spacing (however the single-track deck plate girder bridge, 20-460/461/462 only has one side and two could be placed very close together).

What you may be thinking of is that the double-track truss bridge (20-435/436/etc) has a part that allows two placed end-to-end to be joined so they look like a continuous bridge.  Oddly the single-track truss bridge does not have a similar part.

Thanks Ken and KH,

It was seeing a Kato viaduct box in a LHS about 12 years ago that got me thinking N scale! Seemed cool then and still does!

Cheers
