disturbman
I'm currently working on my travel plans and I stumble onto two very interesting things. But I can only do one. So I wonder if anyone had done any of those things and how he liked it. So, starting in Akita I discovered (that is if Hyperdia is correct) that I could ride the Resort Shirakami on the whole of the Gono Line (it's a five hour ride) or, I could take a Shinkansen up to Tazawa Lake. Both sounds equally interesting and I really don't know what to choose. Any tips? Link to comment
westfalen
I've done the Gono line, but in a Kiha 40 in 1996, it's a very scenic line that hugs the coast most of the way. Another line in the area worth riding is the Akita Nairiku Jugan Tetsudo between Kakunodate and Takanosu through some remote mountain country. Locals do the trip in about two and a half hours. westfalen
If you have time while on the Gono Line you could do the Tsugaru Railway from Goshogawara. When I did it I had an early start though, getting off the Nihonkai from Osaka at Higashi Noshiro at 6:30am. A few of my Gono Line shots from 1996, the weather was not the best. 3 Link to comment

So, are there places in Japan you HAVEN'T been to yet? =) I like the pictures though, especially 137 and 139.. Give it a rather nice J-Horror kinda look, and I love J-Horror ;) Link to comment
Bernard
Alvin - Even in bad weather the photos look inviting. Traveling by rail along a coast is my favorite scenic views. Link to comment
