bikkuri bahn
Last night the (up to Ueno, down to Kanazawa) night express Noto (489 "bonnet" type) and ltd. express blue train Hokuriku made their last departures, in line with the spring timetable revision that is effective today, the 13th. The departures received considerable media coverage, with the departures from Kanazawa station being broadcasted live nationwide on the late evening Asahi TV news. Here is the night express Noto in happier times last year, on the Iwahara curve on the Joetsu Main Line: 1 Link to comment

CaptOblivious
This was one I'd hoped to ride next trip to Japan…get a sense of what roughing it on a train was like. Ah, well. Just need to save my pennies for when the Kato model comes back in stock! Link to comment
489-YOMPAQ
Night express Noto was finished as a commuter train (runs everyday), but it still be operated as a special train on weekends and holidays. It was operated by 489 bonnet type at Kanazawa (JRW), but it's are operated by 485 "electric cooker (denki-gama)" type at Niigata (JRE) now. These formations are used as "Hokuetsu" and "Inaho" generally. I want to put my picture of 485 Noto(not so good), but I'm not sure how to put... http://railf.jp/news/2010/03/20/173400.html http://railf.jp/news/2010/03/23/173400.html I think "good old (natsukasino) Hokuriku" and "good old (natsukasino) Noto" will be operated someday. It must be very difficult to buy a ticket because of scalper or ticket tout . Link to comment
