Tohoku Shinkansen 1990

Continuing the video from my 1990 visit to Japan, we head north from Tokyo after watching the comings and goings of 200 series Shinkansen at the underground Ueno Terminal. The Shinkansen link between Ueno and Tokyo stations had not yet been built.

Thanks for posting. Back then all the trains were 200 series, now with all the newer types prevalent, I'll go out of the way to ride a 200 for nostalgia.  Like that last scene in the "buffet" lounge, with the speed indicator and those bubble-era hairstyles and eyeglasses.

The buffet scene does look like something out of an old Japanese movie. I recall standing there for a few minutes waiting for the speed to start climbing toward 235kmh.

Yeah, but is was worse when the Tohoku/Joetsu Shinkansen ended at Omiya.  You had to take a "relay" train from Ueno (a 185 series) to get to Omiya, then climb up to the high level platforms.
