NGT6 1315
Hello, having had a look at this photo of a E26 series end coach from the Cassiopeia sleeper train and noticing the windshield wiper on the centre window I would be interested to know whether there may, in fact, be a control desk of some kind installed at the end of the car to be used during shunting movements. Far as I am aware many of the European Talgo rakes have such control desks in the end trailers, so I would not be surprised if JR had specified the same for the end coaches on their sleeper rakes. Thank you for any replies! :D Link to comment
CaptOblivious
I've seen movies on YouTube of this console being used during shunting operations (it's in the grand suite! won't do to have someone operating the train while the guests are asleep!), but I don't have links handy just now. bikkuri bahn
Here is one video with scenes at Ueno, at 2:20 and 4:42 you can see the train staff at the console. Note that in this case the unit is the lounge/HEP car KAHAFU E26. From the second scene, it appears the crew member has a horn, but does not actually have throttle control, perhaps has a radio/intercom link to the locomotive pushing?? Link to comment
