Darklighter
Hi, I'm searching for a track plan of (JR West) Toyama Station as I'm planning to model a similar situation (double track line, electrified + single track line, not electrified). All I have found is a pamphlet concerning the conversion to an elevated station. And I don't think that the tracks/turnouts shown in Google Maps really are correct. Any ideas where I can find a track plan of this station? Link to comment
bill937ca
Try this City of Toyama map. Unfortunately it does not expand. http://www.city.toyama.toyama.jp/division/toshiseibi/toyamaeki/kukakuseiri/kukakuseiri.html# This site has a wiring map as of February 2006 that shows 1500v and 20000v 60 Hz. http://deadsection.image.coocan.jp/dead_sec/toyama/toyama.htm Link to comment

bill937ca
This station has two different lines. The Toyama Chitetsu operates at 1500v and the JR Hokuriku Main Line operates at 20000v 60Hz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Dentetsu_toyama_sta02s4592.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hokuriku_Main_Line Link to comment

Unless that's Portram from before Portram became Portram. But it would be odd for JR to have a little spur line electrified at a different voltage then the only main line it connects to. bikkuri bahn
Unless that's Portram from before Portram became Portram. That appears to be the case. Before the start of the Portram, the JR Toyama Port line was closed, and the section of track between Toyama station and Toyamaguchi (the dotted section in the map linked below), was abandoned. There are also pictures of the old platform 6/7 and workers ripping up track. http://deadsection.image.coocan.jp/dead_sec/toyamakousen/toyamakousen.htm Link to comment
marknewton
Unless that's Portram from before Portram became Portram. Yes, it is. The Portram line has a convoluted history. It opened in 1924 as the Fugan Railway, was taken over by the Toyama Chiho Railway in 1941, nationalised in 1943, becoming the JNR Iwasehama line, and had its line voltage increased from 600v to 1500v in 1967. Goods service was withdrawn in 1986, and the line through Toyamaguchi relocated in 1987. But it would be odd for JR to have a little spur line electrified at a different voltage then the only main line it connects to. It was more common than you might think. There are a couple of ex-interurban railways now operated by JR that are 1500v lines connecting with AC-powered main lines. Cheers, Mark. Link to comment
David
The E531 used on the Joban line (which seems to be popular around here) being one example. Link to comment
Mudkip Orange
Everything I've read says the outer Joban Line is only A/C because the stray current from the DC would screw up readings of the earths magnetic field being conducted by some scientific science institute of science somewhere out there... bill937ca
Joban trains between Ueno and Toride use E231 series trains which run on DC. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=42708032&postcount=323 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C5%8Dban_Line Link to comment

Mudkip Orange
It'd be cool if someone had a YouTube video of a Joban E531 coasting from the DC section into the AC section... Link to comment

Unfortunately the wiring map shows only the eastern side of the station. However, I found a larger version of the map from the first link: http://www.city.toyama.toyama.jp/division/toshiseibi/toyamaekijimu/keikakuzuh21.pdf and another pamphlet, which shows how the station will look like: http://www.pref.toyama.jp/cms_sec/1516/00004514/00218565.pdf Now I think I will include the Shinkansen tracks/station in my planning. scott
With any luck, you might finish construction before JR does! (That's an impressive station, and I like the tram connection that runs underneath, but boy they need to plant some more trees!) Link to comment
