David
I've got the Tomix Finetrack uncoupler track, but...I can't figure out how it's supposed to do anything. It seems to be designed for rapido couplers, which is what I want, but it does not follow the ramp design normally used to push up the pins under rapido couplers. Instead it's a magnet in the track. However it is clearly not meant for Micro-trains magnetic couplers - it is much more powerful, and is incorrectly shaped and sized. Driving an American train over it actually causes the couplers to be held together even tighter. The instructions that came with it seem to show something being added to the coupler - is it a magnetic set in the opposite direction so they repel each other? Link to comment
CaptOblivious
Tomix locos fitted with Rapido couplers have this nifty feature that no-one else's does: They swing upward. As in they are on a hinge, and swing up 90º, perpendicular to the track! The whole thing has a magnet in it, so that being brought close to a strong magnet forces the coupler to swing up—just like this track—allowing the loco to uncouple. Needless to say, this bit of track will work only with those Tomix locos so fitted. It will not work with Kato locos. Link to comment
