westfalen
Here's another one while I'm on a roll. One afternoon in Tokyo during the 1990 trip my brother and I caught a Kodama down to Shin Yokohama to watch the Shinkansens. 300, 500, 700, what are they? Something missing today is the scraping sound and arcing of the copper contact strips used on the Shinkansen pantographs at the time. Towards the end when the '0' series pulls in at the opposite platform, count how many times the guard looks at his watch before he gives 'right away'. Link to comment
disturbman
Keep them coming please! I think it's one of the best Shinkansen video I've seen so far. Simply loved the copper contact strips. Must have been something to see those trains run in the dark, their hovering presence highlighted by the arcing going on overhead. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
16 car 0 series trains- those were the days...That Kodama may have been running a bit late- the stretch between Tokyo and Shin-Yokohama is riddled with curves, keeping the speed down. It probably made up time on the run to Odawara. Link to comment

I didn't get any video, but I remember seeing one pass at speed one night somewhere during the trip, I think it may have been at Asa after we had ridden the Mine line across from Nagatoshi, it was better than any fireworks display I've seen since.
