Old Japanese documentaries on YouTube (and elsewhere)

There’s an absolute treasure trove of old Japanese documentaries on YouTube, lots of railway ones among them.  I really should have been posting them.

I’m watching this one right now with my son. It’s not specifically a railway one it’s about building the Seto Ōhashi (yes there is a railway line on it). Truly great cinematography and soundtrack to convey the awesomeness of building a massive bridge across the Seto inland sea.

I’ve got loads more I’ll post.

This one one measuring track dynamics from back in Showa34 is great. Some good 151系 action.

There’s a great subtext of ‘this is why we need to build the Tokaido shinkansen’.

That channel (tyokutoku) has uploaded a lot of great 1960s documentaries.

Workers of the Tsubame in 1954, featuring an EF58 and a C62 - as the title says focussed on the people working the train.
