Looking for motor part number for Kato N700S Shinkansen

In particular 10-1697/1698/1699 full 16-car set.

I run it on the fast side at large train show.  I'm worried that it's life span is shortened due to the high speed running and wanted to keep a spare on hand.  Looking at the included pamphlet that came with the set, it does not show the motor as a spare part.  I hope I don't have to buy an entire spare chassis.

I will be in Japan in October so I can avail myself to all the shops there but I need a part number though.

for Kato, you generally are only offered the chassis (including motor) as an option, unlike tomix.

Understood and they have them listed in the back page spare parts list.  But I'm curious then how come places like Super Kids Land, Popondettta, Imon, TamTam, etc. carry them as spare parts on their shelves?  They have different types with different stock numbers.  But how do those stock number cross reference?

If I take apart the car, will the motor have a part number on it?

best would be to look at the spare parts list in the box, or alternatively on the website.

The aforementioned shops just have aisles of spare parts. You can also try your luck at the KATO shop in Tokyo, where they also have aisles of spare parts. If you want to be sure to get one, you can always ask RG-R  to order one for you that you can then pick up if you go to Kobe.

Thank Yavianice but that's my dilemma.  The spare parts list in the box, and I'm pretty sure on Kato's website, does not list the motor as a spare part and thus can not source the part number.  I checked my other Kato Japan trains and the motor is not listed in the back of the enclosed pamphlet.  Strangely all the Kato USA locos list motors as spare parts in their exploded diagrams!  Probably have to buy the entire chassis just to get the motor as katoftw suggested.  But that's a little over kill if I just only wanted it as a spare and not for a repair.

BTW, Kato Hobby Center in Shinjuku does not sell motors alone.  I was there last year and wanted to buy a motor for a friend back home.  Even had the exact part number and they said they don't sell motors.  Easily found it as a spare part at TamTam.

As has been mentioned by @katoftw, KATO does not generally speaking sell motors separately. It offers motorized chassis. The assumption is that if you have a problem with your motor you can either replace the chassis including the motor or go to a dealer to service it/send it in to service it; if it's under warranty then KATO dealers have a dealer catalogue in which they can purchase the specific part (all parts are sold separately in the dealer catalogue). But this catalogue is not available to the public/you cannot order from it.

So your options are thus:

- Buy a motorized Chassis (specifically for your train part 74367-1S) (Kato Hobby Center is probably your best bet)

- Do a warranty claim at the place you purchased it (if you purchased it in Japan)

- Ask a service center to fix it for you (Hobby Center KATO offers such a service)

- Buy a spare motor car from HobbyLandPochi or Popondetta in the 'junk' bin (test it first but will probably work fine, should be easy to find)

- Buy KATO 11-503-A which is the slotless version of the motor that's now used in the 700 series. The mold has not changed, so the motor fits fine according to the compatibility list. The motor can be a bit hard to find though, as it was sold mostly for people to upgrade some of their older models/try these out on their layouts.

Hope this helps.

Thanks @Yavianice, i had always thought that Kato might have a service parts catalogue and just not public but had never heard this for sure.
