very nice DD16 with Snowplow… upin investigating, i saw that they are sort of hard to get, so i had to have it….😊

here a pic of the combination

of course it’s not DCC so i’ll have to convert it myself….. but there is no a lot of space…. Just have to see….

here a little video to check if everything was ok with it on a test track

It works !! (Allways risky when buying a 2nd hand product 🥴)

next thing I’ll do is disassemble it and see what space there is……

So, lets disassemble it.......

I will show it in steps , with things to pay attention to

Here the DD16

First I did was take of the cab

dd16-02.jpg.d3c2fa7e9a249ebe0912c5ca1f4da0eb.jpg

Then turn it around and remove the bogies

dd16-03.jpg.0149214532259b7a172b7354f931becb.jpg

You can just pull them out carefully

dd16-04.jpg.311eb70172c6e53d3cd8cc8b8996f05e.jpg

as far as i can tell the bogies are identical, so it doesn't matter in which way you install them.

dd16-05.jpg.e69efa9e8ba61839eb6d371036b5ca41.jpg

now remove the couplers (and store them safely so you don't loose the metal "springs"

dd16-06.jpg.69bd57e98e4bb2a5fa4863767183150c.jpg

Then it's time to remove the front and rear railing.

First carefully pull out the railing from the holes

and a detail shot

dd16-08.thumb.jpg.0a137ec145158c956a90b9fa34418754.jpg

and put them in front (which makes it easier to remove the railings)

dd16-09.thumb.jpg.cb0cde13719c74f00335161e4f10123d.jpg

now it's easy to remove the part (btw, carefull with the small red lights, easy to loose them !!!

And just for reference , the holes where the pins of the railing should go....

So far so good, ...... have to sort out some pictures so soon more of the disassembly....

Hope i don't bore you with all the pics

Then it's time to remove the side railings, and this is a little tricky :

First you have to "pry" the places i circled (you see the red small parts)

dd16-14.jpg.9dc629707c1b8c82671696d772aed94c.jpg

these parts fall into these slots ....

You see the read parts that fall in the slots here as well obn the removed railing

then remove the underside.....

dd16-17.jpg.4bd190fccfb0b24b77a2a8990fecc4bb.jpg

here the 2 parts

also be carefull with the feeders, they are fragile.....

dd16-18.jpg.c75cdc0135dad31176b7a11bff2e6f42.jpg

Also note there is a difference between front and rear

you see the little slots (with the arrow) go to the front when re-assembling

dd16-19.jpg.e7bee30e39037dc1fe94344cd5e32c19.jpg

Then remove the grey plastic tabs on both sides (these prevent the 2 metal sides of coming into contact with eachother

dd16-20.jpg.7938363cd2e7beb549ce84a394efa0be.jpg

here you see one of the grey plastic tabs

and  !! VERY IMPORTANT !! one of the number plates .... they come of easy and if your not carefull you loose one of them to the carpet monster !!!

dd16-21.jpg.ee8575ba25c11ce8b172781aefec83a0.jpg

here the 2 tabs removed... it will come apart now

dd16-22.jpg.9940944176e8a98605069c6ff4c69761.jpg

and the parts detached

dd16-23.jpg.3570a8def4db76ff70b7e07130d4fb4d.jpg

and the motor

dd16-24.jpg.f09ca64d66a1983d5dee4c597a54460f.jpg

And the attachment points for the motor.......

dd16-25.jpg.7f7ea6b4162a2e54aecb25ac43be5c64.jpg

Well that's it for the disassembly..... now I'm going to try and figure out where to put the DCC decoder.....

Any questions about the disassembly ? Don't hesitate to ask.....

Ok, let’s continue….

a little nervous as this is my 1st dcc installation without examples to follow….. 😅

anyway, i connected the motor wires ( grey and orange) to the motor, and then the black and red cable to the programming track !

It worked….. Yeah !!

IMG_5748.thumb.jpeg.e47237d51b055a1b59a59e0cc2442ce0.jpeg

so far so good…

Now i think i am going to sacrifice the back light…. ( it wasn’t included anyway) otherwise i can’t find a place for the decoder……

And now i really NEED your help…..

i took a board from a DD51 which i didn’t use, and dremelled away 😜

IMG_1950.thumb.jpeg.f8eea37d2c71b23d9109c814aa8a7fad.jpeg

the front part contains the light on which i soldered a resisor (620 ohm)

I am going to use the contact parts to solder the red and black wire but now i want to connect the light of the decoder, so before I start doing that, I really need to know where………

Just to clarify

this is the situation..... and I need to connect the white wire from the decoder to the Light

Do I connect it at the end of the 621 resistor ????
