Plaza Japan once again has Japanese train DVDs for sale.  These are Japanese language/train sound only and region free.

The $58 US price is a little steep, but what are the alternatives? 

 

I got a video a couple of years ago from Plaza Japan and after a little bit of playing with the menu button was able to select train sound only.

Sadly in my experience in buying J-train DVD's the $40-$65 USD range has been historically IME been the going rate even when shopping for them in Japan. I nearly died thinking I was getting a bargain at Kamakura Station where I bought a single 30m Enoshima Railway travel DVD for ¥2000.

 

On a side note, anime DVDs tend to go for the ¥5000 and you only get two episodes. In the US, you usually get about 5 episodes per disc at an average cost of $25. So, the contrast in costs for DVD's over there in most genres tend to be much higher than N. America.

DVD's are generally much more expensive than anywhere else. Not sure why..

 

I have a Maaya Sakamoto live concert DVD which cost me about 80 dollars not including shipping. I also have a DVD about a certain style of kyudo, which is only some 20 minutes of footage, but was also around the 80 dollar mark. Personally, I think both of them are worth the price, but I'd never even consider spending 80 on your regular movie or something =)
