Private railways and dedicated lines often connected large factories , coal mines , and warehouses in port areas to the nearest train stations . During the heyday of rail freight transport in the 1960s and 1970s , many existed, mainly in industrial and port areas such as Keihin and Chukyo, but after 1984 ( the JNR timetable revision on February 1, 1984 ) , most of the lines were abolished due to the system change caused by the containerization of freight trains . Located about 5km northwest of the city center is Mt. Kinshozan (Kanabuyama), which is known as the "birthplace of Japanese paleontology" due to its abundant production of 250 million year old (Permian period of the Paleozoic era) fossils such as fusulina and sea lilies. In addition, as Mt. Kinshozan is entirely composed of limestone, limestone has been mined there since ancient times. The Seino Railway, which runs along the foot of the mountain, was built in 1928 (Showa 3) for the purpose of transporting limestone, and while many industrial railways across the country have disappeared, it still runs from Minoakasaka Station to Otomezaka Station on a branch of the Tokaido Line. The tank car towed by the EH is temporarily moved to the siding on the east side of the platform, and then shunted back to the loading and unloading line by the Kyosan shunting locomotive. The photos were taken on multiple days (and in different years), so the number of cars and even the type of freight car are different. Please see here for the afternoon shunting on the private line. bill937ca Posted April 5 Author Share Posted April 5 (edited) [An unknown, vast freight station] Branches and freight trains at Kawasaki freight station “Translation of the YouTube video description” Kawasaki Freight Station is located just a short distance from Kojimashinden Station on the Keikyu Daishi Line. Kawasaki Freight Station is an intermediate station on the Tokaido Freight Line, which is a freight-only line, where the Kanagawa Rinkai Railway's Ukishima Line and Chidori Line branch off. It used to be called Shiohama Control Station and Shiohama Marshalling Yard. There used to be a hump yard to sort freight cars, but the yard relay system ended and the hump was removed. The Tokaido Freight Line tracks continue from Tokyo Freight Terminal to Kawasaki Freight Station, Hamakawasaki, Hacchonawate, Tsurumi, Yokohama Hazawa, Higashi-Totsuka, and Odawara. (Freight and passenger trains are separated up to Odawara Station, ensuring the transportation capacity of passenger trains.) There are no passenger trains that pass through Kawasaki Freight Station. Since it is a freight-only station, naturally, Kawasaki Freight Station and the Tokaido Freight Line are not listed on the route map or timetable. For this reason, Kawasaki Freight Station is not well known even among the general public and railway fans, but it is an important station with a vast site and many freight trains arriving and departing. In addition to container freight trains connecting various regions, ENEOS' Kawasaki Refinery, chemical plants, and garbage (domestic waste) processing center are located in Kawasaki's waterfront, and transport trains of petroleum products and chemicals, as well as the "Clean Kawasaki" train that carries Kawasaki City's household waste, depart and arrive here. There is also a freight car workshop and locomotive depot, where freight cars and locomotives are inspected and repaired. It is an unknown but important base that plays many roles. The site area of Kawasaki Freight Station is said to be eight times the size of the Tokyo Dome. Trains heading to Tokyo Freight Terminal pass through Kawasaki Freight Station. We hurriedly enter the Haneda Tunnel. The Kanagawa Rinkai Railway's diesel locomotive was in charge of the shunting work. It is an unfamiliar type of diesel locomotive, but the sound of the diesel engine and the whistle reverberating throughout the premises were very typical of a freight station, and it was very nice. And the Kyosan's paint scheme - your basic dip job - at least that is the term that is used in the US - is just what I have been wanting to do on my industrial diesels, but could not find an example for in Japan. bill937ca Posted April 5 Author Share Posted April 5 (edited) The legendary Yellow Train: Ishihara Sangyo Yokkaichi Factory Private Line “Translation of the YouTube video description” Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha, located in Shiohama, Yokkaichi, has a freight-only line, where the Taki 5450 type, which was used exclusively for liquid chlorine, once passed through. The train, which is colored yellow from the locomotive to the freight cars, could be called the Yellow Train, not Doctor Yellow. As it was a relatively long-distance private line, there were many things to see, such as the forest railway-like feel and the fact that it was shared with Showa Yokkaichi Oil. I have not cut any parts, so please skip to the parts you want to see. This private line, where the B6 was once active, has now outlived its usefulness. Edited April 6 by bill937ca Link to comment

bill937ca Posted April 6 Author Share Posted April 6 (edited) A day in the life of a railcar who can't go back to the garage but works hard in silence - The last two years of a shunting railcar at Ogino warehouse “Translation of the YouTube video description” This is the Oginosoko shunting car, which was in charge of shunting on the Chuetsu Pulp private line in Takaoka, which you saw previously. For the last two years, the tracks between the Oginosoko depot and the main line were converted into a parking lot for another company and the tracks were removed, so it was unable to return to the depot and was operated coupled to the end of the line. When it was put into this operation in 2018, there was talk among private line enthusiasts that it would finally be abolished, but it surprisingly survived and was able to be seen in operation until the end of 2020.
