DD13
What industries are space efficient for a shunting layout?. Have seen some industrial modules with a short spur where loading 2 or 3 wagons. Link to comment
cteno4
You might do some google image and video searches on this for layouts to get some ideas. Ive seen many folks compress the industry or just hard chop it off after a few inches to just show the stuff just trackside. Many times things like storage mins and tanks or a small warehouse and loading dock are right next to the tracks and the rest of the industry a bit farther away. jeff 1 Link to comment

Usually I approach the design the other way: lay the track with the topics I have in mind or available (like a loading track, track for the switcher, side track, etc) and then start playing with structures. But first make sure of a fun track layout to operate. Also, lot of research for inspiration as Jeff pointed out. Martin 2 Link to comment

valkyriepm
Yes, what I mean is that you will need some sidetracks to storage some cars while switching others around. Martin 1 Link to comment
