RS18U
Wonder how well these will sell: First-class section being added to Tokyo commuter trains this month with double-decker Green Cars https://soranews24.com/2025/03/11/first-class-section-being-added-to-tokyo-commuter-trains-this-month-with-double-decker-green-cars/ 1 Link to comment
bill937ca
Will be paid for by the employer. JR East has been lengthing Chuo line platforms for years. There already are commuter green cars on the Tokaido line, Shōnan–Shinjuku Line, the Joban line, the Utsunomiya Line, the Takasaki Line and Ueno–Tokyo Line. Going into service in time for the year-end schedule change. Edited March 11 by bill937ca 1 Link to comment
UnfinishedKit
This does, however, mean the end of the Hachoji commuter oriented limited express service. Your employer paying for a green car or limited express commuter pass was always a sign of status, might be a sign of the times that JREast don’t feel they can sustain a whole limited express train on that segment of Chuo line (longer distance limited express trains are unaffected I think) Edited March 11 by UnfinishedKit 1 Link to comment

UnfinishedKit
Interestingly Keio seems to be making their hachioji limited express trains work by having trains with rotating seats that can act as normal trains the rest of the time. I suspect Keio fares are cheaper as well https://ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/京王5000系電車_(2代) Link to comment

Not an all day train, but a peak period special often used to move trains to and from maintenance facilities. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/ライナー列車 Link to comment
