Kochi Trams - Tosaden Kotsu

Knowing there are some tram fans on the forum, I thought I would post some pictures of the Tosaden trams in Kochi if the opportunity came for me to get some good pictures.  That finally happened today as we went to JR Kochi Station to ride to Ino Town to visit the Paper Museum.  I was able to get pictures at their terminal outside JR Kochi Station, at the end of the line in Ino Town as well as some on the north-south route in Kochi.

There are a lot of different liveries!  I have a bunch I will post but have missed at least half a dozen more.  Only here one more day but I will see if I can more pics of the ones that have escaped me so far.  So, for starters, here are some on the north-south route near Kochi Station.

Ciao,

Tony

The Tosaden tram line opened in 1908 to bring paper products to the port by Kochi.  Here is the current end of the line (though there is some additional track to nowhere in the nearby streets).  The terminal building was built in the style of the other buildings in Ino Town at that time.

This would make a pretty neat small terminal layout - and easy to operate too!  Just run a tram in and out every 8 minutes.

And, finally, for today at least, a few views from inside the tram we rode back to Kochi.  The middle picture shows one of the trams in another color scheme but I could not get a good angle to take a better picture.  And we passed several more on the way into town that I was unable to get pics of.  And this tram was not at all smooth - every stop was a grinding racket.  But on the other hand it is still running so that is all to the good.

Ciao,

Tony

Two views of the tram terminus at JR Kochi.  The view from above is from our seats on the Nanpu waiting to depart for Gorem.  The other shot shows the nice landscaping setting off the tram stop.

And two shots of a tram in a livery I had not seen before.  And still there are others that I saw over the last few days that I have not seen again to take pictures.

I do not know how many trams Tosaden Kotsu has.  I checked on Wikipedia and the company's web site but no info on the number of trams in the fleet (or, if it is there, I missed it completely).

Ciao,

Tony

Wow - no idea the company has so many cars.  I've barely scratched the surface.

There is a lengthy single track section using token coils at the west of the line.

There wasn't a tram in the terminus when we went to the station to leave this morning but as I was sitting on our train before it left, I noticed this one arriving so got one last Kochi tram picture for this trip.  Sort of a hurried shot but yet another color scheme.

Cheers,

Tony
