Daikichi
Traveling to Japan in April to reconnect and to work on photographic essays about global shipping and the Kansai Region. As a side, I would like to get a few good images of rolling stock depots in Kansai and maybe Tokyo, as well as a good Shinkansen on a viaduct in the countryside, maybe in Kyoto/Maibara. These are such integral parts of the Japanese landscape, it’d be really good to at least a few good railway images. This will be the 6th trip to Japan, so I am familiar with the territory, particularly Kansai, but I’ve never looked for these types of images. Any ideas? Looking for clear views, few obstructions and good for night photography. I particularly like the idea of parked trains at night and shinkansens zooming through the countryside. Thanks! 1 Link to comment
kuro68000
One trick for finding good photo spots is to go on Google Maps and look near viaducts and other interesting features, If you grab the little person icon that lets you go into Street View, it will also have little circles where people have taken photos and uploaded them. You can then see locations other people found and evaluate them for yourself. 1 Link to comment
Phantom
https://maps.app.goo.gl/BUJfYnBNCQSNg3Sx8 This is probably the shinkansen spot. Not kyoto or Maibara though. I think there are some spots around there as well, but sound barriers and fencing are an issue in most places if you are looking for photos obstruction free.
