Dioramo Lighting Kits

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

While scouting for JustPlug power supply I stumbled upon a business in NC which sells LED lighting plug&play kits for dioramas - https://dioramo.com/

Could not find any reference here in the community. Anyone has experience with these kits ?

Thank you,

Abushoni,

There are a number of these systems out there that basically just have a led and resistor wired to a plug (usually the mini 2.54mm pc board plugs) that you can plug into a distribution box and plug a wall wart power supply into that. A few have extra variable resistors in them so you can dim a led. Western scenics has one and I’ve seen a few others out there on Aliexpress, ebay, web. Some look like maybe they would inter connect using the same plugs, that is if they use the same dc supply voltage!

They are a bit klunky as being pre wired you have to get extensions if you want longer runs (or splice in your own extension to the wire) and have holes in everything big enough to run either the led or plug ends through them. They also are really expensive once you start adding up the costs and components and wire big and klunky

If you want to try your hand at doing some of your own wiring it’s really simple to do your own LEDs and make things much more flexible at a tiny fraction of the price of these plug and play kits. Don’t be scared of this kind of wiring it’s super easy and a little practice and soldering and such will be a cinch! Give it a thought, we can walk you thru it all! I’ve done this with many people that were terrified of wiring and soldering and they have come out feeling very proud and happy they got over it and learning how to do the basics. Tons of great youtube videos on soldering as well and soldering is mostly practice practice practice, just have to jump in and do a bunch of test solders and you get the hang of it.

wired tiny SMD LEDs are now dirt cheap as well as small wrapping wire, resistors, variable resistors, etc from places like Aliexpress and ebay.

cheers,

jeff
