kiwiinoz Posted yesterday at 09:24 AM Share Posted yesterday at 09:24 AM Hi. New here living in Brisbane Australia. Im looking at getting into n scale railroad mostly Japanese. I brought a tomix starter set and a few other track sets so looking to expand and see others layouts etc. I eventually want to make it dcc but am struggling to find any info on converting a tomix df66. Here's the gear I have already and I've got a tomix df200, flat cars and cargo containers on the way.. my other hobbies include model making (mostly 1/48 millitary aircraft) and photography 1 Link to comment
Martijn Meerts Posted yesterday at 10:21 AM Share Posted yesterday at 10:21 AM Welcome to the forum! For Tomix loco's, you'll have to hardwire in a DCC decoder. There is, as far as I know, no drop-in replacement, and the loco's don't have any sockets. There are a few articles on the forum about hardwiring decoders, and although not specifically for your loco, they should give you a good idea on how to go about it. Link to comment

Kingmeow Posted yesterday at 02:39 PM Share Posted yesterday at 02:39 PM If you want to go DCC you may want to look at Kato. Many of their locos are DCC ready and are much easier to get a decoder in than Tomix. 1 Link to comment
cteno4 Posted yesterday at 06:06 PM Share Posted yesterday at 06:06 PM Welcome Kiwi, glad you found us! yes Kato is the easier solution for DCC Japanese trains but even there a bit more limited selection. Drop a query in the DCC forum on your df66, maybe some one has some ideas. Also lots of good DCC information in that forum. Until you go DCC you can have a lot of fun with just dc (it’s not like some DCC folks will say DCC or nothing!) as Kato and Tomix track does power routing so you can do a lot of fun stuff with minimal wiring. Lets you play a lot very easily with just track on a table and no decoder install, programming, etc, just power up and go. jeff 1 Link to comment
