Great video with English subtitles explaining JR East’s use of electric locomotives and sometimes out-of-service EMUs to remove ice from the catenary.  This channel Kaminakazato has a lot of good videos, I believe this is the first with English subtitles.

Thanks for posting this - it is really neat to see - especially watching while home and warm with hot coffee.  Hoping to travel some of these lines next winter.  But not getting out at 4:00 AM to see the ghost trains!

Wow that was pretty interesting, I liked the different JR logo on the EF64. I realize that I can make almost any train a ghost train lol.
