sandiway
I bought this beautifully constructed JNR Series 0 Shinkansen, the cars fit together exactly with no gap, as a starter set back in December 2024. Had to get creative to make room on my desk to accommodate the R195 curve rails necessary for the train to run smoothly. The solution I came up with was to deepen the desk 250mm using foam board and shelving support behind my widescreen monitor, which requires some room for the arm. I also added some straight track to the set as my desk is 5 ft (1.52m) long and the track included makes the layout 846mm wide only. 2.5 min video. https://youtu.be/ShhgReHeQUU Edited Sunday at 09:04 AM by sandiway 3 Link to comment

The 0 Series Shinkansen is so beautiful, it gives me impetus to keep going. (However, I don't want to make it any longer. I have 16 car N700 N gauge and track length becomes a problem.) The more I add, the more pleasure I get out of the Z desktop. I'd love to get more Z or even smaller scale structures in there. Hoping I am able to get a work trip in 2025. Link to comment
cteno4
I’ve been sorely tempted to do the same thing with z scale over the years around my computer workstation. But now that I’m retired I spend much less time there! I did pick up a series 0 z shorty and tiny loop to do some little fun loop to take to train shows. jeff 2 Link to comment
Ander88
Having It in front is great because you dont its not like other models that once finished they are left stored somewhere. However you will be constantly thinking how to improve and add more and more stuff.😁😁 Link to comment

sandiway Posted yesterday at 11:35 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 11:35 PM (edited) And since the JNR 0 is running well, I'm brave enough to extend the R195 loop to its maximum size (added a 220mm straight). I have reasonable confidence it won't derail and fall off the edge of the table, but maybe I need to add a barrier. Size: R195 at both ends, then 5 x 220mm straights means 390 + 1100 =1,490 mm (58.7"). Table is 5ft (60"; 1520mm) long. Edited yesterday at 11:41 PM by sandiway 2 Link to comment
cteno4
Double stick tape a little 3/4” gray cardboard lip there as a concrete wall! I think you are safe unless running at 400mph! jeff Link to comment
